Touring Superleggera Disco Volante is a stunning labor of love

Touring Superleggera Disco Volante is a stunning labor of love If there's one thing Italian coachbuilders are good for, it's turning out lust-worthy pieces of machinery. Touring Superleggera pulled the sheets back on its very own effort in that category with the Disco Volante. The Alfa Romeo 8C-based creation, which was shown last year as a design study, bowed at this year's Geneva Motor Show and was inspired by none other than the 1952 Alfa Romeo C52 Disco Volante. With the Alfa 8C's 444-horsepower 4.7-liter V8 lurking under that aluminum and carbon fiber bodywork, this modern take on the classic should have no trouble hustling down your favorite Italian Alpine pass.

The sprint to 62 miles per hour will take you a slim 4.2 seconds, and the speedometer will wrap all the way to 181 mph before the bespoke coupe runs out of steam. Of course, that's once you take delivery. According to Touring Superleggera, each car will take some 4,000 man hours to complete, soaking up six months of the company's time in the process. Looks worth every second.
